Uprooting Stigmas and Normalising Wellbeing.

“He who has health has hope, and he who has hope has everything.” ~ Thomas Carlyle

Due to the surge in the Covid-19 cases and the series of lockdown that have been imposed recently, all of us have been suffering in some way or the other. Even though virtual platforms have provided us with multiple tools to stay in touch with our family and friends, prolonged social isolation has still had an immense impact on our mental well-being.

Despite the confinement rendering us with opportunities to enhance our skill-set and do something productive, we have been surrounded by a vicious and invisible bubble of distress. Thus, in these precarious times, it is extremely important for us to address, express and act upon our emotions so that we can lead a comfortable life.

Celebrating this theme, the Mental Health Awareness Month is celebrated in May each year, as a means to destigmatize and normalise talking about mental health issues. The reality is that our cognitive vigour is as crucial to our overall well-being as our physical health is, if not more so. In fact, taking care of our psychological temperament is important at every stage of life and for people of all ages.

It is not just about this month that we should focus on mental health. It is about the holistic development of our balance of mind. At the same time, it is crucial to celebrate ourselves and the recoveries that we have made over the past time. We need something more than just the theoretical sensitization of the theme, rather the actual implementation of this affirming process. Hence, this is just a reminder for us to be accepting of our condition and to be resourceful for the ones around us.

In recognition, Enactus DSC is organising a campaign: CATHARSIS - ‘Unpacking Emotions, Embracing Tranquility' that emphasises the need to normalise self-care during the pandemic. The team is also organising an insightful webinar with several licensed professionals and renowned psychologists on 29 May 2021 at 5 PM. The session shall also be streamed live on their Youtube channel. Register via the link at the end.

All in all, every story is important but it is all the more essential for them to be recognized in time. If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed with the circumstances, or feeling anxious, pessimistic or stressed for persistent periods, don’t hesitate to reach out for help. Asking for help when we require it is a sign of strength, rather than weakness. It shows that we are determined to overcome the challenges facing us and hence come out as a stronger and better version of ourselves.

  1. Everything is not so easy as it seems. Reaching out is the not the first thing that comes to your mind when you are sulking. When you have hope, you have everything. We you lose hope, everything is lost. I have been there.
