The Newfangled Way of Conscientious Travelling

The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.”

There are a myriad of answers that you can deliver if someone ever asked you about your beloved hobby. But if you were solicited about something that you were passionately desiring to undertake as an activity during this disquieting juncture, it would undoubtedly be travelling!

A getaway from stress, chaos, uncertainty and whatnot, travelling is more than just a portal to serenity. It is a bewildering experience and this is what makes the travel industry the most demanding and fastest-growing in the world. From the past few decades touring has observed continuous growth, not only in its consumer base and investments but as an industry at large as well. Unaffected by seasonality swings and several other impediments, the global pandemic and the consequential lockdown is some of the very few exceptions to ever have manipulated it so severely.

Covid-19 succeeded in bringing an interlude in this prospering empire. States and countries that derive their economic backing majorly from the travel sector have been negatively impacted and it will take a protracted period to revive the industry thoroughly. However, unconscious journeying is yet another factor that is deteriorating the industry and more importantly, the travel sites. However, the modern-day solution to this surging catastrophe is Ecotourism.

Ecotourism can be referred to as “responsible travelling by responsible travellers”. Yes, it is equivalent to regular travelling but encompasses environmental awareness, conservation and sustainment of local communities. Rather than merely wandering and entertaining oneself, the fundamental priority of ecotourism is to make people appreciate the culture and the magnificence of nature which adds to its differentiation from ordinary travelling. Another concept with the same principles is of Staycations, a strategic recreation. Staycations might not contribute directly to the environment and local community’s livelihood but post the covid period, they have become a necessity to get one unbound from all the cognitive confinement. Moreover, they pose a relatively less environmental footprint when compared to other touring alternatives. Ecotourism and staycations together can assist in resuscitating tourism and can also stimulate financial benefits for the local people residing in the target areas by offering a great recreational experience.

The environment is at an alarming situation and our continuous ignorance is only making the situation worse. The floods, volcanic eruptions, cyclones and droughts aren’t a mere coincidence. They are the indicators of the disastrous health of our environment, and hence it’s our responsibility to adopt ecological strategies for fulfilling our neverending appetite. The resources are limited but our appetite for expeditions is not. Thus, switching to staycations and fostering ecotourism is definitely the need of the hour.

  1. I totally agree with the fact that eco-tourism is a great way to travel, by being environment friendly and conserving and sustaining the local communities. But what i feel is that by travelling like this you can't truly explore and feel the true essence of the new place that you are visiting and that ruins the whole point of travelling and exploring.

  2. Eco-tourism and staycations have been a great saviour in the times of covid. In the post covid period, they have become a necessity to travel in a safe and secure manner, avoiding crowded places and yet being able to enjoy and explore a new city. And the plus point to all this is they pose relatively very less carbon footprint.
